Are grass fires dangerous? Find out more from the Climate Council

The Climate Council is an independent organisation which uses the latest science on climate to help tackle one of the biggest issues of our era: climate change. As well as connecting in key players and decision makers, sharing solutions and advocating for better policies, they are also active in producing informative resources that are freely available on their website.

After all of the rain and floods affecting so much of the country following the 2019-2020 fires, people may not have bushfires front of mind. However, vegetation has flourished and conditions will get hotter and drier. Fires in grasslands is something that we should all be aware of coming into the next fire season as they move faster than you might think, burn very hot and can still be a threat.

If you would like to learn more about what grass fires are, how they behave, and what you can do to protect yourself and your property, please see the article and latest report about grass fires published by the Climate Council in February 2023.
