The NSW Rural Fire Service has just released fire history data in NSW to the public in September.
Mapping of fire history in a region is critical to making informed land management decisions, such as managing for threatened species that are sensitive to fire, or predicting how a vegetation community will respond to planned fire or recover from bushfire.
The information is available to view in ArcGIS, as well as a web viewer and complies with the AFAC Fire History Guidelines. The data has been collated from NSW Rural Fire Service’s internal data from Guardian, BRIMS, and ICON since 2000s, and earlier data is also included from other land managers collections including Bush Fire Management Committee members, Catchment Authority, Department of Lands, Fire & Rescue NSW, Forest Corporation of NSW, NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, Parks Australia, NSW Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service.
