Do you want to better understand the effects of the 2019/20 fire season on the NSW environment? The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have released a summary of the impacts of the 2019/20 fire season. The summary covers assessing the effects of the 2019/20 fires; mapping fire areas; the extent and severity of the NSW fires; the Biodiversity Indictor Program; biodiversity indicators – post fire analysis; natural values affected by the fires; and where to from here?

The report provides a good summary of the impacts on threatened species, as well as different vegetation communities and land management areas across the state. There are also some broad statistics that are useful for referencing in your own work, along with a breakdown of fire severity in different land management areas and a detailed analysis of the impact on biodiversity in the fire ground.
