Looking into the eye of the fire:

Some astonishing footage has been captured within two prescribed burns by the Conservation Foundation’s Franklin Parker Preserve in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, New Jersey, US. The videos provide a good demonstration of the difference between a high-intensity crown fire, and a low-intensity ground-fire. Filmed using a 360° camera encased in “a water-cooled glass enclosure” you are able to drag the footage around to see a full view of the fire and how it moves through the forest. Click here to read more about the project and here to learn more about the technology involved.
